E. D. Smith Dies While Driving Car

COLEMAN ~~ Funeral for Elmer Doss Smith. 71, retired Coleman Grocer
who died of an apparent heart attack Thursday while he and Mrs. Smith were
in the process of moving from Abilene back to Coleman, will be held at 2 p.m.
Saturday at Stevens Memorial Chapel.
The Rev. Clark, pastor of the Assembly of God Church here, will officiate.
Burial will be in Coleman City cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith had resided in Abilene three or four months. While taking
some home furnishings back to Coleman Thursday afternoon he was stricken while
driving the family car. The car went into the ditch just a few miles northeast of
Coleman on US 84. Mr. Smith was dead at the time of the arrival of a Stevens
Funeral Home ambulance.
He was born July 21, 1896, had resided in Coleman since 1920 and was a member of
the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife; three daughers, Mrs. Jackie Turner of Coleman,
Mrs. Frank Stokes of Athens and Mrs. Doris Crawford of Hobart, Oklahoma;
one son, Eugene Smith of Abilene; two sisters, Mrs. Home Wilkins of
Abilene and Mrs. Pete Travine of Hobbs, N. M.; two brother J. J. Smith of
Lubbock and Coy Smith of Hobbs. Twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson
also survive.
