Frank Paull Stokes
Services for Frank Paull Stokes, 80, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m.
Tuesday at Central Baptist Church in Athens with the Rev. Mike Gibbs officiating.
Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Foster & Brown
Funeral Home of Athens.
Mr. Stokes died Feb. 22, 2002.
He was born April 1, 1921, in Henderson County to Ira Willie Lee and
Lillie Stone Stokes.
Mr. Stokes was a veteran the U.S. Army and served during World War II.
He was a retired home builder and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Athens.
He was a resident of the Athens area for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Earl and Robert Stokes;
and sisters, Minnie Willingham, Bertha Bremer and Mary Stokes.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Opal Smith Stokes of Athens; son and
daughter-in-law, Tommy and Shirley Stokes of Athens; daughter and son-in-law,
Jean and Gene Whetstone of Euless; five grandchildren, Christian Stokes,
Brit and Amanda Stokes, Ashley and Scott Gutkowski, Kaylan Whetstone and Doss Whetstone;
stepgrandchildren, Heather and Jeremy Ripley and Cody Glover; sister,
Lela Mae Andrews Grissom of Athens; two great-grandchildren; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Athens firefighters Waylen Padgett, Ken Griffin, Ray Anderson,
Tres Winn, Raymond Williams, James Johnson, Eugene Lattis and Joe Komandosky.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Bledsoe, Harry Barrows and others with the
Athens Fire Department.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
