George Wayne 'Super' Cooper, our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend
lost a short battle with cancer on Monday, November 17, 2003. He was born October 30, 1933
in Bangs, Texasto George 'Cotton' and Hazel Dell Cooper, and is survived
by his wife of 31 years, Kathleen O'Gorman Cooper. He has five beautiful children:
Wendy Gail Atwood, Traci Lin Cooper, Georgeann Fowler and husband Greg,
George William Cooper and wife Sarah, and Miriam Kathleen Cooper.
He is fondly remembered by his brother, Bill Cooper and wife Phyllis and his
sister, Fawn Dell Geddie and husband Lester, along with 8 Nephews and 4 Grandchildren.
George graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1951, after which he attended
Sul Ross University in Alpine, TX and St. Mary's University in San Antonio,
on full music scholarships. While finishing college he worked as the associate band director at
North East High School, now known as McArthur High School. He then began a Radio
Broadcasting career spanning 42 years and 7 U.S. cities with his retirement from San Antonio's
KONO Radio after 20 years. He had active participation in the Boy Scouts of America as a
scout leader and Round Table Commissioner and worked with his church and community. His
unending passion for music began early, playing the french horn in High School and College while
winning various state and national praises. His music continued to be a staple in his life, including
the past year, in which he was teaching himself to play the Dobro. His smile, laughter, love and
devotion to his family and friends, and his continuous dedication to achieving the best, will never
be forgotten. His music will always ring in our hearts.
