Death Claims J. W. Smith
Funeral services are set tomorrow for Johnnie Willis Smith, 57,who
died Saturday night in the Fort Stanton Hospital. Although he had been
in ill health for about eight years, Mr. Smith was admitted to the hospital
only Saturday morning.
An oilfield worker, Mr. Smith had lived in Hobbs for 12 years.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Edna Smith of 508 East Snyder;
three daughters, Mrs. Benny McCann, Mrs. Jackie Peacock and
Miss Glenda Smith, all of Hobbs; three sons, Bacel and Johnnie Smith,
both of Hobbs, and Leroy Smith of Roseville, Calif.; three brothers,
J. J. Smith of Brownfield, Tex., Doss Smith of Abilene, Tex.,
and Coy Smith of Midland, Tex.; and two sisters, Mrs. Jean Previna
of Hobbs and Mrs. Beulah Wilkerson of Abilene.
Services will be at 3 p.m. in the Griffin Funeral Home chapel with
George Pledger, pastor of the Jefferson Street Church of Christ,
officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery.
Active pallbearers include include Roe Holliday, Spide Cooper,
C. H. Sherrell, Vernon Mayhand, Leon Beard and M. J. Peaxock.
