County of Victoria }
Know all men by these presents, that I John M. Kuykendall , a citizen of the County of Victoria
& State of Texas, am held and firmly bound unto Jesse B. Kuykendall also a citizen of the
said County & State, in the sum of Twenty Thousand Dollars well and truly to be paid, conditioned
that whereas, I the said John M. Kuykendall have this day bargained, sold, aliened and
conveyed, unto the said Jesse B. Kuykendall, for the sum of one thousand Dollars to me in hand
paid, all that certain Headright League of land Patented to my father, A. L. Kuykendall by the
Republic of Texas, on the 27th day of June A. D. 1845, situate in Medina County, (for a more particular
description of which, reference is made to the said Patent.)
To have and to hold to him the said Jesse B. Kuykendall his heirs & assigns forever.
And whereas the said Land has been sold by A. C. Dawz, Admr. of A. L. Kuykendall, decd.
To one John H. Herndon, and I have commenced a suit at law for the recovery of the same
from them (the said Dawz & Herndon) now therefore if I the said John M. Kuykendall
on the final adjudication of the said law suit, (if the same is in my favor) shall well and truly make a full
and perfect title to said land to the said Jesse B. Kuykendall then this obligation to be null and
void, otherwise to be & remain of full force & virtue.
In Witness whereof I hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal (using scrawl for seal) this the
24th day of June A. D. 1857.

Before me Geo. M. Reid a Notary Public in and for the County of Victoria, & State of Texas,
duly confirmed and acting as such this day came, John M. Kuykendall, whose name is signed
to the foregoing instrument of writing & who is to me well known, & acknowledged that he had
executed the same for the purposes & considerations therein stated.
To certify which I hereunto set my hand and affixed my official Seal, at my office in Victoria this the

I Louis Huth Clerk of the County Court of said County, do hereby certify, that the instrument
of writing on the reverse hereof, with its Certificate of Authentication was filed for registration
in my office, the 1st day of June A. D. 1858, at 9 o'clock A. M. and duly recorded the
2nd day of June A. D. 1858 at 10 o'clock A. M. in the record of said County in Book, A.
No. 6 on pages127 and 128.
