John Amos Clark
John Amos Clark, age 81 years, died at his home at 804 South Seventh street
yesterday morning at 2:45. He was an old and well known citizen of this city, having
lived in Bell county for the last sixty years, and Temple for over twenty years.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. J. A. Bowley and Mrs. J. L. Turpin,
and by a granddaughter, Mrs. H. L. Sullivan.
Mr. Clark was born in Lincoln county, Tenn., Sept. 17 1837. He came to Texas
in 1854, locating soon afterward in Bell county. In 1857 he was married to
Miss Caroline E. Crawford, a daughter of Marshall Crawford,
in 1862 he enlisted in Company C, E. J. Gurley's regiment, and served principally
in the then Indian nation. He participated in many skirmishes and at the close of
the war was honorably discharged in Robertson county and returned home. Coming to
Bell county when quite a young and, Mr. Clark became one of the prominent and
prosperous farmers of this section.
The funeral will be held at the Seventh Street Methodist church this afternoon at 2:30,
services to be conducted by Rev. R. A. Walker, the pastor, and Rev. Ditts of Midway.
Pall Bearers will be as follows: Actice, Sam Callaway, Frank King, Silas Moore,
Herschel Brown, Tom Alexander and Peyton Sims. Honorary, E. A. Barber,
H. Alexander, George Gresham, Walter Knight, J. B. Powell and T. C. Quesenberry.
