Oscar Eugene "Gene" Smith
Oscar Eugene "Gene Smith died Thursday, April 20, 1995 in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 21, at North's Cahpel, Buffalo Gap Road,
with the eulogy by Robert McAtee. Grave side services will be at 2:00 p.m.,
Coleman City Cemetery, Coleman, Texas
Born December 31, 1920 on the Brown Ranch in Coleman County, Texas, he was the son
of Doss and Josie Smith. He was reared and educated in Coleman County, attending
Whon and Rockwood schools. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1940-1946.
On March 20, 1948, he married Betty Smith in Abilene, Texas. They moved to
Abilene in November 1993.
A veteran of World War II and a Pearl Harbor survivor, Mr. Smith was employed
by KRBC-TV until 1982 when he retired as Chief Engineer. He was an amateur radio
operator AE5I, Member of the Key City Amateur Radio Club, the American Radio Realy
League and the VFW of Abilene.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife Betty Smith of Abilene; three sons
and daughter-in-laws Bobby and Wanda Smith of Euless, Texas, Mickey and
Cheryl Smith of Killeen, Texas and Kenneth and Brenda Smith of Blytheville,
Arkansas; one daughter and son-in-law Linda and James Vincent of Throckmorton,
Texas; four granddaughters, Kristi and Heather of Abilene, Texas, Amanda
of Keller, Texas and Angie of Euless, Texas; two grandson, Hunter of
Blytheville, Arkansas and Robin of Euless, Texas; two great grandchildren,
Darren of Keller, Texas and Ashlee of Abilene,Texas; and two sisters,
Opal Stokes of Athens, Texas and Doris Norman of Moscow, Idaho,
and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Smith, Mickey Smith, Kenneth Smith, James Vincent,
Jason McCormick, Curtis Pinner, and Hunter Smith. Honorary pallbearers are
amateur radio friends.
