Notes for RICHARD DAVID SESSIONS:
Richard Sessions was supposed to be a grandson of Robert Sessions who was a member
of the Boston Tea Party. A branch of Robert's family came to South Carolina, but my cousin
has been unable to prove the link. Robert Sessions was a young man who on impulse joined the
Tea Party. Since he was not in disguise as were the others he had to leave Boston to avoid
arrest. His family came to New England about 1640. Aunt Edna Bollinger was proud of her
grandfather Sessions. He is supposed to have freed his slaves in Alabama before moving to
Arkansas. He was the first clerk of Little River County when it was formed by the
Reconstruction Government after the Civil War. This was a dangerous position.
Several hundred were murdered (mostly blacks) in Little River County in the first few
years after the Civil War.
Richard lived in Marion District until 8 years of age. He moved to Clarendon,
Sumper Dist. SC on the Santee River and was there reared until 1831. He then moved to
Pike Co., AL. (Troy) In 1833 he moved to Florida and married and had one child, Susanna.
This wife died and he returned to Pike Co., AL. He later moved his family to Arkansas
and settled in and near Foreman, AR in Little River Co. In 1868 he was elected for the
first County Clerk in Little River Co. He established and was the first postmaster at
Rocky Comfort, AR.

Both grandparents are buried in Cerro Gordo, OK Cemetery.
Just visited and took mother and decorated their graves in April 2002.
Their son, John D. Brazil that died as an infant is buried beside them.
Agnes Bowden had TB as a young lady, Small pox, cancer of the colon when she
was in her 70's and lived to be 96 years of age. In her failing years she moved from
Idabel, OK and came to live with her only daughter, my mother, and when we would visit
she would show us her old pictures of her family and had a sharp mind well into her 90's
at which time she started having mini strokes and then she suffered from dementia.
She was a wonderful christian lady and read to me a lot of bible stories and taught
our Sunday School class when I was a very young girl. She also taught us how to
bake cakes and cookies and baby-sit us a lot while mother worked. Really a beautiful
lady! She died on her birthday and her birthday gift was heaven, for if anyone makes
it, she did.
Since I found a copy of her death certificate, I am correcting her name to Agnes Evalee Bowden
like her death certificate. I always only heard her called Agnes. July 7, 2002.
